Andrius Remeikis (PhD fellow, Vilnius) and Jonas R. Stonis had a meeting in Copenhagen in late January with Ole Karsholt, one of the most eminent Lepidoptera curators in Europe.
For nearly 35 years Ole Karsholt has been the Lepidoptera collection manager at Statens Naturhistoriske Museum (formerly Zoologisk Museum), University of Copenhagen. The fields of Karsholt‘s scientific interests are Microlepidoptera of Europe; taxonomy and distribution of Palaearctic Micropterigidae, Eriocraniidae, Ochsenheimeriidae and Gelechiidae; Lepidoptera of Macaronesian islands (especially Madeira); nomenclature of Microlepidoptera; etc.
Remeikis and Stonis greatly appreciated Ole Karsholt‘s vast and highly valuable Nepticulidae (Insecta: Lepidoptera) collection consisting of specimens which Karsholt together with his colleagues collected in Peru, Bolivia, Argentina and Chile in 1978–1982. Now, after scientific examination, this unique collection will serve for taxonomic assessment of the diversity of Nepticulidae of the Andes.
